Amnesia Ibiza is considered one of the temples of electronic music and is one of the epicenters of the global dance scene.
Amnesia first opened its doors in 1976, founded by Antonio Escohotado, with the idea of being the “Workshop of Forgetting.” He wanted to express the feeling people had when going out to party, in order to forget their problems and enjoy the moment, escaping from the routine. This is how Amnesia was born, a word from Greek that symbolizes everything the nightclub aimed to project.
What started as a traditional house with outdoor parties frequented by hippies and locals has turned into a massive nightclub capable of holding up to 8,000 people, becoming one of the world’s top references in electronic music in terms of sound, lighting, and musical selection.
Amnesia is divided into two different rooms, often with completely different musical styles and line-ups, and sometimes even different parties in each room:
Main Room: Curiously, it is the smaller of the two rooms, with a darker atmosphere, ideal for pure techno parties. The best DJs in the world have played in the Main Room, and parties like the fun and iconic Foam Party, a signature event, are held here.
Terrace: It takes its name from the old terrace of the nightclub, as Amnesia was one of the first outdoor nightclubs in Ibiza. Today the room is covered, but the large windows allow the first rays of sunlight to pour in. It’s a huge rectangular space with a significant height, allowing for impressive productions like Elrow Ibiza.
Amnesia has been home to some of the longest-running and most legendary parties on the island, such as Cocoon and Cream Ibiza, both of which have lasted over 20 years.
Amnesia Ibiza is located halfway along the main road from Ibiza to San Antonio, near San Rafael.
