After experiencing moments of mountainous elevation and several incredibly personal euphoric experiences at the Materia Opening Party, it was now time to re enter the dark chasms of Marco Bailey’s truly techno lead party for another full pumping techno session with the world’s best electronica purveyors...
00:00 - 1:00: Aphotek
Aphotek believes a musical revolution occurs when scientists encounter anomalies that cannot be explained by the universe and when the Italian Producer / DJ entered the realms of Materia the universe certainly balanced itself out. Styling the Materia decks with her Italian Avant-garde style and charisma, Aphotek took us on a riveting journey of her self-expression. She built the set with layers of melodic sonics, continually building purpose and prose with each track. Important fact, the first set of the night is integral to any parties success, build it too high too early you’ve screwed it! I could tell Aphotek took this role seriously and cemented a powerful warm up set.
01:00 - 2:30: Ambivalent
US born now Berlin resident Kevin Mc Hugh aka Ambivalent has progressed thoroughly in his career to be a true spokes man of underground dance floors across the world. So when he stepped up to perform at Materia high respects and expectations were mixed thoroughly into the Vista Club’s dance floor’s feelings! Beginning with cuts of delicate tranquility, which by the way you might think is a total oxymoron! I mean like who ever heard of tranquil moments in the techno genre! Regarding the latter oxymoron comparisons I can safely say only true genre aficionados will understand that statement! Well anyway, Ambivalent built on the subtle moments to then power the dance floor up with a selection drumcodian hard hitting, subversive techno cuts! Materia’s momentum was now pounding full throttle and at this point this young Irish music journalist felt real moments of happiness and belonging.
02:30 - 04:00: Julian Jeweil
Ricocheting subterranean flair, French Producer / DJ Julian Jewel released a fireball of energy into his Materia set on Sunday night! Not a stranger to the #1 Beatport position in fact Julian has had over 7 singles hit the top spot since beginning his producing ventures in 2007. Honing a signature sound within music genres particularly electronica can take years of tough production endeavors but It’s 2016 and Julian has championed his melodic techno sound. As a dance floor pundit I was completely thrilled when Julian mixed in the melodic with the rough darker sounding cuts. Edgier sonic moments culminated in all out
abandon as the Materia dance floor fully loosened its buckle! Everyone is lost in his or her own private emotions. I love how the techno genre can be as communal as it is a uniquely self-developing experience. You feel the music so deep it grips your whole being, infiltrates your spirit and gives you resurrecting. Beautifully vivid flashes of the hypnotic Materia circular visuals take over my aura and I’m completely lost in the moment.
04:00 - 06:30: Christopher Groove
Austrian Producer / DJ Christopher Truecher aka Christopher groove ignited the Materia dance floor with a barrage of industrial dub techno cuts, the textures of Chris’s sound is so ethereal he can really warp you in a trance like state even though his music is pumping hard. It’s the Vienna born DJ’s dexterity on the decks, continually keeping two tracks entwined in a weaving lock, which sets him apart. Christopher has enjoyed playing opening party dates for several Ibiza parties and this portrays how the ethos of the international white island bows to his grace and presence. By 6.30 AM the winds of home are calling, we have devoured our lashings of Marco Bailey’s Materia atmosphere in the prestigious Vista Club which will hold many more of his dark devouring’s. As Christopher Groove finished the proceedings, he remains to be a powerhouse of studio to dance floor exports, playing uncompromising music and cutting some huge track edits for labels like Moon Harbour, Cecil & Intek.
