Satisfied with his season in Ibiza, an island for which he feels a special attraction, he now embarks on a USA tour and his rapid rise seems unlimited. Working with the most prestigious record labels, he’s collaborated with Adele’s 'Fire Set To The Rain' and remixed 'Silence' by Delirium becoming an indispensable name on the line up of the most important electronic music festivals such as Ultra Music, Tomorrowland, Electric Daisy Carnival, Coachella, Mysteryland and Sensation White.
The use of the word "revelation" would be risky because his career in the Electronic Music is long and prolific but certainly, this artist is more than ever on everyone's mouth. Breaking the hermetic underground that used to dominate the German scene and betting on more fresh and lively sounds that are catching the dance floors around the world.
You were born in Berlin, which is considered by many as the capital of electronic music in Europe. Do you think this has benefited you professionally or instead it has been harder for the huge competitively that exist there?
Thomas Gold.- I love to be in Berlin because the music is so inspiring to me. I like the city and even if it isn’t like EDM now, it is very underground and minimal, I really love to go out and see deejays playing. It has never been like a competition for me because we are all friends. It’s like a one community. That’s one of the best things in the music around the world, everybody has kind of the same spirit. I really like to go out in Berlin if I’m there.
Which is the next dance music capital in your opinion?
I couldn’t tell one because there are so much stuff going on, for example, in New York there are a couple of clubs that are just opening up playing more underground music for bigger audience which is new to New York and then LA has growing up a lot. I remember when I came to Los Angeles three years ago it was hard to play music but now there are so different clubs for different kinds of music. Then Europe is really moving. Even Asia or Australia, everybody in the world is evolving. That’s a very good think because people are super open now to any kind of music. This style, like Calvin Harris or SHM, has been growing so much and they are pushing to the next level making it accessible for the masses. I see when I play in clubs, everyone knows the songs. It is the energy of the music!
In the beginning, your productions were linked to trance style, and now, your music is more progressive house and tech house. Where is your music evolving nowadays?
Well, it wasn’t really trance at the beginning, it was more like housie, groove house, funky house. I always develop it. I try to go with the flow and I get my inspiration with what’s going on. I try to incorporate new elements into my music but I’ve never been limited into trance or progressive because I’m doing everything together now.
So how do you define your style? Which are your identity marks?
Big chords, big melodies and more vocals. Progressive and techno is more about the beat and trance is a lot about the melody. The atmosphere and people can just flow with the groove, with the music.
This summer you have been playing in different clubs of Ibiza. How do you feel the crowd in this island compare with other countries and cities?
It’s feel different! Ibiza is still something very special because it’s has been there since so many years, since the 60’s, when Pacha opened up and you really can feel the spirit. It grows over the years. There is a lot of history here. For example, even though Ushuaïa is a new club you can feel the vibe. When I go to other places and I get back to Ibiza, I always feel happy. This island is so beautiful… the beaches, the restaurants... I was lucky to have a vila with friends in August for two weeks and we stayed there for a couple of days, we enjoyed the local food... I really love Ibiza!
Can we expect a permanent residence in Ibiza for the next year?
[laughs]… Maybe… This is my third time at Privilege this year. Last year I had a residence at Departures. I think this is my last show for this year in Ibiza so I’m kind of sad.
I have been looking at your Facebook and you have a tight agenda for the next months. Any project in mind you can tell us that it isn’t in your account?
My new track is coming out on Hardwell’s Revealed label. It is call “Colourblind” and I’m really excited about that one. Promotion will start next week and Hardwell is already playing it. I’m being part of the Revealed. I played for them at Ushuaïa last week and that’s one of the biggest thing at the moment. Also, I’m going on a big USA tour next Friday starting with Las Vegas, Chicago… and many more.
You never get tired?
