It was his first appearance since his accident in Las Vegas at the end of May, and the first date of his anticipated summer residency in Ibiza. I think all Garrix aficionados on the White Isle were biting their nails at the possibility of him not recovering from surgery in time for the show. However, the young talent returned full of excitement and with a spring in his step, it was as if he never left.
Here is a selection of best bits from the extravaganza.
For this very special residency, we get to catch the reigning champion for DJ Mags Top 100 DJ’s inside victor of 3rd place in this year’s top 100 clubs, Ushuaïa Ibiza – what a luxury! In other words, this party is a match made in heaven and if EDM is what you are in to, then you have come to the premium place.
This will be the artists 5th stint at the impressive open-air club, and with four successful residencies under his belt, he shows no signs of stopping in 2019. For the first of 9 consecutive dates, the “Animals” DJ invited a roster of electronic talent including PHI NIX, Brooks and fellow Dutch DJ Nicky Romero.
As we arrived, we could tell that today would be a scorcher in more ways than one. Matisse & Sadko were in control of the already busy crowd spinning a mix of progressive house beats. Attendee’s danced around the pool during one of the hottest days of the season so far.
After recently reuniting with Russian Brothers, Martin Garrix released their collaborative EDM anthem “Mistaken” after an epic performance at Ultra Music Festival earlier in the year. It was a novelty to have the brothers on stage.
As the sun disappeared, the lights lowered and the screams got louder, Martin Garrix chose this track to open his revival set.
It was an emotional welcome back as he entered the stage and dimmed the start of the track to speak over to the mammoth audience:
“Thank you so much for coming tonight, this is my first show back since 6 weeks, I’m so f***ing happy to be back on stage tonight – let me see everyone, hands up in the air”
Everyone understands the language of music and we were communicating with each
other through dance. The huge international fanbase moved together to the beat
whilst ginormous fireworks and spellbinding visuals immersed us into the
moment.
Despite EDM not being my favourite genre, the energy from Garrix and the crowd
was infectious. Maybe a break away from his crazy schedule was just what the
superstar needed. After all, absence makes the heart grow fonder and he went
for it on this night, showing us all what we were missing and vice-versa.
We can tell this is going to be a special season for him, and we can’t wait to
be there to witness the magic. Click here for more information and tickets –
don’t miss out.
