“I always decide the tracks at the very last second by following my instinct”, Stefano Noferini
Stefano Noferini is nowadays one of the most prolific producers and deejays, with themes that triumph in dancefloors around the globe and place him at the top of the sales ranking. Leading the label Deeperfect Records, that last year released the compilation "Deeperfect Ibiza 2013", mixed by the Italian Uto Karem, he's gradually established himself as a highly respected figure in the electronic scene. His latest venture: a successful weekly radioshow, with techno edge, in his native Italy.
Since he started DJing in the 80’s, this artist has evolved across genres and fusing new sounds without losing that house touch in which he was a pioneer. In his sessions, he always prefers to improvise, allowing his instinct to squeeze the best of himself for pleasure of the demanding public.
With his residence set in the beautiful Italian Tuscany, this summer Stefano will land in Ibiza to play with one of the biggest, Carl Cox. The date will be on August 12th at the legendary club of Playa d'en Bossa, Space Ibiza, a night that promises to be remembered as they will be joined by Fatboy Slim, Umek, Steve Rachmad and Eats Everything, amongst many others.
You started playing in 1980? Where is your music evolving nowadays?
My music evolves everyday, but I really don’t know which is the direction I’m going to in advance. I choose everything following my instinct. Instead, if I think about the music scene or the sound, I think that there’s no evolution. There are cycles and now I think we are going into a period for more melodic techno, full of 80s and 90s sounds.
Who inspired you at the beginning?
It wasn't a person... My main inspiration were vinyl shops. I loved and still love the smell of vinyl, it’s very distinctive.
Do you remember when was the first time playing in Ibiza? How was that experience?
My first experience was at Amnesia, in the late 90s and was a great gig. For a DJ, playing in Ibiza is like performing in a great theatre for a musician. I remember that night because I was really moved. Since then, I've played in Ibiza many times and every time is different.
In fact, you have been in Privilege, Space, Eden… How different is the crowd in the island respect to other cities?
The crowd in Ibiza is fantastic, because most the people come to Ibiza because they want to dance to something new, something different, something more. Nothing is too experimental, if you know what you’re doing. The emotional tension of a night in Ibiza is incredible, but every party is different: day, night, different clubs and different sound systems.
Any similarity between Ibiza and the Toscana?
It’s a small region compared to Ibiza, and it's very different. It’s like a party favor. You can produce good electronic music everywhere in the world, but if want to spread your music all over the world, you can't stay in Toscana forever.
You'll be playing with Carl Cox in Space on August 12th. What can the clubbers expect from this event?
It’s such an honor to perform with Carl Cox, at one the most important events of the season. His night and his role in the electronic culture are unique and to be part of it is an honor for me… but I really don’t know what I’ll play. I always decide at the very last second by following my instinct.
Which artist did you like to play the most with?
It's hard to name just one, I like to play with so many of them. At the moment I’m working with Paco Maroto and Italian DJ Daniel Selfmade. And new collaborations are coming with Mendo and Cristian Varela.
Your Deeperfect label is becoming bigger and bigger and you have a successful radio show, Club Edition. What would you prefer to focus in the future: playing, producing or broadcasting?
It’s impossible to choose just one thing. DJing is simply the other side of producing music and my radioshow is the perfect medium to communicate my music every week.
Recently you performed at the Mystic Garden Festival in Amsterdam. How was it?
It was a nice experience. The festival has such a positive mood and atmosphere, there’s a lot of energy in the air. The promoters did such a great job.
Any project on mind that you can tell us?
My next single will be “Love” and will be something like a return to more melodic techno. We’re preparing the remixes, one will be by Italian duo, Natch! & Doten. I’ve been working on this track for more than 2 months, but the idea came out fast. It takes a lot the time and different attempts to make a good track, but your idea has to be strong, otherwise the result will not convince anybody!
Here we leave you one of his songs, "Vegas":
