"The music is being introduced from outside, very commercial, but it is a cycle"
Michael Sanchez, also known as Kaleshy, is a regular DJ of "Ibizan private parties". Despite being born in Madrid, he is almost islander with over 8 years living in Ibiza, playing at clubs and participating with their sets in radio shows. He has shown his electronic talent for the third year with his participation as an artist and organizer of Loving Ibiza. The festival was been extended from one to three days this year, with alternative proposals, as the first international breakdance competition, a master class for digital deejays, and up to five events across the island. The stunning party at Sa Punta des Moli with the sunset as idyllic setting for the event was amazing. "The goal is to mix the people from here that they are not well known outside the island, with people who are well known internationally but don’t have the ability to click here," he says.
He has shared the booth with names the likes of Uner, Technasia, Mendo, Mathias Tanzmann, Uto Karem, Francisco Allendes, Christian Varela and Danny Serrano, among other international artists. This winter we will see his name on the roster of Loving Ibiza Showcase tour travelling to San Francisco, Algeria, Portugal and Brazil. In addition, two festivals in Spain, one in Madrid and another in León.
How do you define your style?
Inside the underground music I am open to any sound. I'm not very dark. I like a little groove, Latin sounds ... I don’t like to pigeonhole myself into a monotonous session.
Who do you think sets trends within your style?
I love Loco Dice. There are artists like him very eclectic. They play some tracks during the day and different ones during the night. It's like it has to be.
Where we're going to listen to this summer?
In Privilege, Bora Bora, private parties and outside Ibiza in Ibiza Loving showcase.
Why do you think Ibiza is special for these festivals?
Ibiza has something special, the atmosphere. The people live all different.
Where do you think is the music evolving on the island? It seems there are more and more commercial tracks nowadays.
In fact, I miss the Balearic Sound. The music is being introduced from outside, very commercial, EDM, but it is a cycle. There are also really good underground music and commercial music is changing and appears with a new name. Let's just hope that the essence of Ibiza always still there.
How do you think affects the true essence of the island all these figures as Paris Hilton, Redfoo of LMFAO (last year), people that are increasingly their own parties?
I respect that people. I do not understand certain promoters that give them a room to play. But everyone is free to do what they want.
