Since stepping foot on the White Isle for the first-year last year, my Ibiza knowledge has increased momentously. Getting to understand the roots of the Ibiza clubbing scene is part of what makes attending club nights even more special. Exploring all of the parties, old and new, is like fitting all of the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle together.
Vagabondos is an external piece of the puzzle and Chilean-Swiss DJ Luciano has been at the forefront of the free-spirited party for many years. Tonight marked the third event of the 2019 residency and on arrival, I couldn't wait to become part of the history at a party people of all nationalities have been dancing at for many years.
The DJ booth is placed in the centre of the Club Room, which makes the space feel really small and comfortable, and whilst it was of course packed, there was still enough room to dance about the place. Catching the end of Arapu's set, we can sense that he set the mood nicely with a mixture of melodically deep tones and a steady techno rhythm that had everybody grooving.
It was a very international crowd which pays homage to the fact that this party has travelled far and wide and gained fans from across the globe. The music is synonymous to this as a variety of cultures and voyages are expressed through the music. Of course, the visual delights, state-of-the-art technology and laser shows are mesmerising, but in the Club Room it felt more dark, dingy and intimate and it was purely about the music.
The iconic, sexy, VGBDO dancers marched around the crowd and onto the podiums. The carnivalesque production made for a unique, care-free atmosphere with every encouragement to let loose and enjoy the infectious beat and with Dan Andrei now behind the decks, we did just that.
Back in the main room, Bedouin was presenting some quality flowing techno music, building a set that led to the star of the night, Luciano.
Luciano's set was loud, energetic and passionate, despite a couple of out-of-sync a cappellas on top of the always-rolling basslines. He made sure to include some obvious call-outs to the Cadenza repertoire, building with tunes like the Ezikiel remix of SIS's "Crossing Bridges" and then taking it down with something lush and deep.
Every tune was a certified rocker and resembled true VGBDO style. It's clear to see Luciano's fan's adore him, and we can see why.
Luciano's whimsical Vagabondos party will run for a spectacular 13 weeks, so you have plenty of time to immerse yourself in a night of culture, variety and progressive techno.
