Cocoon 20 continues to impress at Amnesia

Monday night marked the sixth celebration for Cocoon 20 this summer and things just keep getting hotter and hotter in Amnesia with Sven Väth and his talented roster of tech-masters.

This week, Richie Hawtin joined the bill. With two huge protagonists behind the decks, it's no surprise we started our evening in a bustling queue to enter. Potentially the busiest Cocoon of the season, take a look at all the madness from Monday.

As we entered the unending tunnel of love and techno, excitement pumped through my veins as this was a date we had pencilled in the clubbing calendar since the season started - boy it had come around quick! Väth did the honours kicking things off in the Terrace, and he was already going in hard with thumping techno. We explored innovative sounds from start until finish. 

The room became busier and busier, and it wasn't long before it was completely jam-packed. Cocoon is a party renowned for having a fantastic atmosphere and the Cocoon faithful assembled to the dancefloor in their hundreds like a tight-knit colony of passionate Väth super-fans (myself included). The vibe was electric. 

The striking Cocoon dancers were dressed in robotic, edgy clothing and marched onto the podium in the centre, each carrying one of the Cocoon letters and moving uniquely to the rhythm. After they enchanted the crowd, we continued to fist-pump along to a techno masterclass provided by one of the longest-standing veterans in the game. 

As soon as we heard the devilish thump of this iconic Cocoon track, my heart began to race and I looked around to witness the same reaction on other techno aficionados faces. The electro revival has ushered in the new millennium and has proved to be a seminal tune, being voted track of the year by Groove magazine in 2018.

The laser-guided melodies and a series of peaks throughout the song created absolute havoc on the dancefloor.



Cocooners were spoilt for choice as Ilario Alicante, Gaiser (live) and Dana Ruh B2B Dorian Paic were taking charge of the Club room over the course of the evening. Just as we were about to check it out, we were greeted with the hypnotic sound of 'Outlander - The Vamp' and the pulsating techno kept us dancing in the Terrace. This tune was too good to miss.

We managed to catch the beginning of Gaiser's live set. Everybody was in high spirits in the club room, and with a little more room to dance we made the most of the moment. 

Realising the arrival of melodic maestro Richie Hawtin on the terrace is imminent, we quickly head for the terrace. Huge cheers and claps fill the room as Sven Väth passes the baton. Still totally in awe of Väth's vinyl lead, authentic set, I made sure to show my appreciation with a loud cheer.

But, the night wasn't over yet.

The thumping techno continued to rumble to walls of Amnesia and the mystifying smoke cannons became more prominent. This was just what we needed as things were hotting up on the Terrace and Hawtin had us breaking a sweat with a stimulating selection of heavy beats.

As we ventured into sunlight, Amnesia was still popping off. When two techno heroes join forces, it's no surprise that the results were nothing short fo epic and it was clear nobody wanted this party to end. We can imagine a number of afterparties continued into Tuesday, as the adrenaline from such a fantastic night continued to flow as we left the venue.
